    1. Groninger Privatbrauerei

    • Address: Bei den St. Pauli-Landungsbrücken 3, 20359 Hamburg, Germany (Directions)

At the time of writing we’re almost coming up on Gröninger being open for 300 years, and it’s something of an institution. When the ideal evening is spent drinking Pils and eating meat, you have to go here.

Their menu is good local food but try and ask for one of the tables where you can cook your own sausages on a grill.

The brewery is only a 10-minute walk from our location.

    2. Brauhaus Johann Albrecht

    • Address: Bei den St. Pauli-Landungsbrücken 3, 20359 Hamburg, Germany (Directions)

It’s only 350m (give or take) from our front door to Brauhaus Johann Albrecht. They provide the quintessential German brewery experience, with this being one of only five locations across the country.

When you’re looking for a reliable beer and a solid dinner after a long day, you’ll want to find a seat here. They do great burger and beer deals, with their Messing beer the perfect hoppy accompaniment.

Brauhaus Johann Albrecht is only a five-minute walk away.

    3. Von Freude

    • Address: Bei den St. Pauli-Landungsbrücken 3, 20359 Hamburg, Germany (Directions)

Less a brewery and more of a store, Von Freude is a great local beer. This location is primarily for beer tastings which you can book in advance. They’ll run you through their range as well as a few special brews they have on the go.

It’s a 15 minute walk to Von Freude or you can take the U-Bahn.

    4. Ratsherrn

    • Address: Bei den St. Pauli-Landungsbrücken 3, 20359 Hamburg, Germany (Directions)

A bit further out of the city centre than the other breweries we’re mentioning on this list, Ratsherrn is an entity unto itself with a brewery, micro-brewery, beer yard, craft store, distillery and kitchen all in one place.

You’re spoiled for choice as well when you visit Altes Mädchen (Our Girl), the corner building of the complex. It’s where they have their core range on tap, while also pumping out 60 different craft beers throughout the week.

Oh, and if you’re up early on a Sunday, they open for what they deem a “morning drink” at 10 am.

The easiest way to get there is via the U3 route on the U-Bahn.

    5. ÜberQuell Brauwerkstätten

    • Address: Bei den St. Pauli-Landungsbrücken 3, 20359 Hamburg, Germany (Directions)

Like craft beer? How about pizza and beer together? Then ÜberQuell Brauwerkstätten is the place to be. If you’re a fan of IPAs, they have a core range of three to try and always have at least four seasonal beers to try out.

    6. Paulaner's Miraculum

    • Address: Bei den St. Pauli-Landungsbrücken 3, 20359 Hamburg, Germany (Directions)

You’ll recognise the iconic label of Paulaner, and this is where the Munich based beer has set up shop in town. It’s mostly a spot for dinner and being able to catch up with friends over a pint or two.

With it being beside Hamburg Train Station, it can get quite busy after work and in the early evening.

Walking will take about 25 minutes. The U-Bahn takes 10 minutes at most.

    7. Blockbräu

    • Address: Bei den St. Pauli-Landungsbrücken 3, 20359 Hamburg, Germany (Directions)

Combining the traditional beer hall with some unique local brews, Blockbräu is the kind of place you can always bring a crowd and expect to get a seat and a good beer.

On sunny days, patrons tend to head outside so they can drink out on the roof and enjoy the good weather.
